The Mat of Witness: A Pacific Climate Justice Talanoa

Wednesday 7 October 2026 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM Bula Village (Baravi 1 & 2)

About this session

Across the Pacific, woven mats carry many names, histories and traditions. They are places of gathering, storytelling, welcome and belonging. Join church leaders, community representatives and young people from across Oceania for a climate justice talanoa and shared act of witness ahead of COP31. Led by Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, participants will be invited to pin stories, reflections, reports and testimonies to the mat. Attendees are encouraged to bring existing materials, or may add their voice using witness cards provided during the gathering. Together, these contributions will be safely rolled within the mat to be entrusted by Caritas Oceania to the Australian Government in its role as COP31 President, charging ministers to carry the voices of Pacific communities into climate negotiations.
